Search engine optimization, or “SEO” for short, is a process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural (organic) search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This is what gives a web site it’s web presence.

Search Engine Optimization considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

Search Engine Optimisation (seo) is an ongoing thing. You can never know everything there is to know about it because it is constantly changing.

However, that being said. What is changing is the way people are always trying to "cheat" the search engines. Find out the exact way each of the search engines weigh the page against keywords.

What you need to do is take a middle line, dont try and beat them all, just try and keep them all happy.

Keyword loading, hidden text and god knows what else are severely penalised these days and some engines will even go so far as to check your site twice. Once to see what they see as a search engine and again to see if that page matches what they see when they look as a user. Sure fire way to get your backside kicked ;O)

You will spend a lot of time on search engines yourself looking up "seo" to keep up with whats going on.

How do I learn SEO (search engine optimization) copywriting?

I"m a mostly-traditional advertising copywriter hoping to expand my digital horizons and am looking to learn SEO (search engine optimization) copywriting. I live in NYC, and I"d rather take an actual class at a location than an online course. Anyone have any good suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,

I was in your position just a few months ago and am in the process of starting my own SEO company. I have actually learned a lot just by searching around the internet, you will notice that several names begin to pop up more often than not. Whether you find a good class to attend or an online course you should routinely check out;

seomoz.org

seobook.com

and I also find good info on stompernet.com <—- Has a course coming up.

Brian Horn is also a good person follow for SEO info.

You can find out about the stompernet.com course by going to their page, here is a link as well:

That should be a good course on total SEO/SEM. I am considering going.

But, if you are just looking to learn about the copywriting aspect you will probably find a huge variance on what is the best way to go and I believe that first and foremost you should just write for your target market. After all, if no one likes your site and hates your copy, then a first page ranking really doesn"t matter.

The key really is to pay attention to the keywords you are optimizing for and write about that topic or subject and be sure to include the keyword a couple of times in the actual text.

I hope this answers your question or is at least something you can use. Let us know what class you find and if it turns out to be a good one.

Cheers,

Josh.
